Saved comparison
Checking for a saved comparison…
Unsaved weights, prices and daily amounts clear when you reload. Copied or shared comparison links retain the numbers they contain. Choosing Save keeps one comparison on this browser until you remove it or clear browser data; it does not sync to other devices. Your inputs are never included in usage counts. This tool does not fetch retailer prices.
BEFORE YOU ENTER THE PRICE
Make the comparison useful for your shop.
Can I compare different brands or recipes?
This tool applies the same daily grams to both packages. Two sizes of the same recipe let you compare what a size change costs without assuming you would use the same amount of a different food. Use it to compare package costs; it does not select a food for your pet.
Should I include delivery, tax and discounts?
Use the final total you would pay for each food package, applying tax, delivery and discounts consistently to both options. For example, USD 24 for the food plus USD 3 delivery minus a USD 2 discount gives USD 25 to enter. These are fictional prices. For a delivery charge shared with other purchases, decide the food’s share first. Check that any discount actually applies to your order.
How do I use the result if I shop weekly?
Multiply the displayed daily cost by 7 for an approximate week of food use. The 30-day result covers 30 days of use; your shopping bill depends on whole packages purchased and food already at home. At an example daily cost of USD 2, a week’s use is USD 14 even if a full bag costs more when you buy it.
THE ARITHMETIC, IN VIEW
Total price ÷ net kilograms = cost per kg.
Use the same currency and the same food recipe for both packages. Grams and pounds are converted to kilograms: 1,000 g = 1 kg, and 1 lb = 0.45359237 kg. No currency conversion is applied.
8 kg at USD 56 → USD 7 per kg
The 8 kg package costs 12.5% less per kg, but USD 32 more upfront. These are example figures, not retailer prices or a package recommendation.
The percentage difference is (higher unit cost − lower unit cost) ÷ higher unit cost × 100. A cheaper unit price does not tell you how quickly you will use the food or whether the package will fit your storage setup.
Add your current daily use to compare food costs.
Daily cost = cost per kg × daily grams ÷ 1,000. The 30-day estimate is daily cost × 30. Days of supply = package grams ÷ daily grams. Use the total daily amount taken from this food, including all pets sharing it.
Package B: USD 1.40/day · USD 42 over 30 days
Using the fictional packages above, 3 kg supplies 15 days and 8 kg supplies 40 days at 200 g per day. This amount is an example, not a feeding recommendation.
The 30-day figure values the food consumed at your entered price. It is not the amount you will pay at checkout: whole packages, leftover stock, price changes and other foods can change actual spending. Thirty days is a fixed comparison period, not every calendar month. Supply does not establish a freshness deadline. This tool does not decide how much your pet should eat.
Comparing prices with the same weight unit follows the approach explained in the NIST Unit Pricing Guide (2025). PetCheck’s calculator applies that arithmetic to your inputs.
A useful comparison, worth passing on.
