Bring your usual empty bowl to the counter. Follow the scale’s instructions and check whether you can select grams, see the display and reach the zero control. A pet-branded device is not automatically necessary. This practical check concerns usability, not a calibration or accuracy test.

Compare the part that gets in your way
The Escali Primo lists two-button controls and tare. The OXO 11 lb model lists a display that pulls out from beneath a bowl, plus a zero function. These are different layouts to consider, not a quality ranking. Neither description confirms that your particular bowl will leave enough room.

Keep capacity separate from the food amount
Both listings describe an 11 lb capacity; Escali also lists 5 kg. Allow for the bowl and food together when checking the limit. Zeroing the display subtracts the bowl from the displayed amount; it does not remove the bowl from the platform.
OXO lists metric display steps of 1 g. A display step is not, by itself, proof of a particular accuracy tolerance. These comparisons cover weighing food, not medicine or supplement dosing.

Read the care instructions before buying
Escali’s Primo instructions specify a flat, hard, even surface. Its care page calls for a damp cloth and says not to submerge the scale. The listed sealed controls should not be interpreted as permission to wash the entire device in water.
Check the selected model’s manual, battery requirements and cleaning steps. If a listing mentions a removable cover, confirm whether it is included and how that part must be cleaned.
